Star Wars And Psychology Embracing The Dark Side

A few evenings ago, some friends and I made a decision to watch the newest Star Wars film, Return of the Sith. This film got me considering a concept that is certainly key to much with the hypnotherapy orlando that I do, and is an excellent demonstration of how not to lead one's life.



Much of what makes the Star Wars story so alluring may be the puzzling change that develops in Anakin Skywalker. How is it which a man are able to turn from supremely good on the embodiment of evil? We're resulted in love Anakin the Jedi and hate the same man, just a few days later. It is both puzzling and troubling. What is much more puzzling (and possibly troubling) is the fact that, on top, apparently Anakin's passion for Padm?? is what leads him, ultimately, on the dark side.



This is an excellent example with the way the Jung claims that this human shadow works. The shadow, as outlined by Jung, has become a portion of our personality we disown. We disavow it, and lock it away. Once it can be locked away, it becomes destructive. We can see this in many ways: someone who denies something about themselves turns to self-destructive behaviors for example excessive drinking, and even worse, becomes violent. It is commonly accepted that many anti-social behaviors have their roots in a person's inner conflict.





Anakin's inner conflict is severe. He lives being a Jedi that is, about, a monastic life. So many in the other Jedi make this happen very well and Anakin fails. He fails the minute he begins to let his shadow express itself. What has been locked up for so very long has grown vicious, and after this consumes and destroys him. The image of Anakin locked in the hood of Darth Vader demonstrates he has really become consumed; he shadow has gotten loose; all that is good about him may be destroyed.



There can be a lesson being learned because of this; and a lesson that extends back thousands of years. There are aspects of us that we, or society, don't like. We have instincts, desires and urges that are, in some ways, unacceptable. It is only natural that individuals should try to repress them in that way we can be accepted by those around us. Unfortunately, if we oppress what we don't like about ourselves, it causes problems. It will be the root of many neuroses along with other problems in our lives.



The solution to this problem seems simple and is also a monumental task: we have to strive to make ourselves whole. That means, whenever we feel an urge to do something unacceptable, we must step back and examine that urge. We have to evaluate what is at the cause of that urge, and that we have to integrate it into our lives in the positive way. We must understand that individuals are good knowning that applies to everything about us. Something that continues to be shoved aside and permitted to become bitter and vicious is simply natural part of us gone bad, and it is incumbent for us to address that. In order to live good, healthy and happy lives, we have to embrace our down side.





If Anakin Skywalker (and the Jedi) were to embrace the Dark Side in a healthy way, they might be more powerful than ever before. They would feel emotions,love, anger, fear, and hate causing all of those emotions could be in proper perspective. Additionally, they would have access on the power that many of these emotions affords their adversaries, the Sith. Keeping the side effects of some human emotions away does not profit the Jedi in any way; it leads to dramatic outbursts of the same emotions. The lesson here is simple and easy very important: embrace your dark side in a healthy way, and are happier plus much more powerful.
