Descent Part Duex
The stage is defined, excitement is building, and many types of the work everyone has been doing because the combine is coming together into one explosive night! Lives changes, dreams will either be made or mauled mercilessly, and decisions will likely be made in Hamburger Fries & Shake the next three days that can affect YOUR team for an additional decade. Pins and needles doesn't set out to describe the atmosphere that's been created.
It has become an excellent time spectacle, in New York in the Radio City Music Hall, coverage on 2 major networks (the NFL Network and ESPN), countless local radio as well as a special room only to hold all of the reporters. I personally was glued towards the computer in the interactive chat with the dolphins homepage that coinsides with there 'Finsiders' radio program. You get to communicate with some pretty cool people there - all old Dolphin players. You can seek advice and get their undertake what's happening, which obviously is my exact take on what should be done .. really!
Roger Goodell (the commissioner of the NFL) slowly walks out at 8pm sharp and announces the draft is up, along with the Indianapolis Colts are stored on the clock (the initial round every team gets 10 minutes to either produce a trade or select a player). Almost immediately, they are available to the table and pick Andrew Luck ' blah, blah whatever! We are referring to the Colts so nobody really cares. I was far more concerned on the poll within the chat asking WHO we need to pick in the first round. Of course I picked a DE/OLB, and it doesn't matter in case you, because the reader, don't know what those are cause its what we should NEED!
Next up could be the Washington Redskins. Once again the pick is almost instantaneous plus they pick RG3. Who is which you ask? It makes no difference because they are the Redskins and .. well, no-one really cares. I was more focused on schooling this newb in the chat as to the reasons, transitioning to a west coast offense, unfortunately we cannot NEED an alpha type wideout because it's a progression based situation which utilizes quick passes to put together the run, and longer passing situations. Once again .. OBVIOUS we'd like a DE/OLB, someone that may put some pressure for the quarterback!!
Things begin to blur somewhat at this point. I knew other teams were up and picking, but everyone inside the chat needed to make the play for which they thought was right and I just was required to shut them all down! Some were talking nonsense like we needed a top quality SS to look at place of Yerimiah Bell, or we'd like to shore inside the right side with the offensive line, and even those crazy people that thought we merely HAD to replace Brandon Marshall at wideout.
Then something happened that virtually stunned everyone into silence for any short time, before we ALL ridiculed this person into next year's pre-season. This person had the audacity to ask what we should thought of Ryan Tannehill from Texas A&M, a quarterback along with a project as well. I'm here to inform you many of us had a good laugh before we went right back to arguing fervently! The names started flying by, quality players that any team so want to have .. Richardson towards the Browns, Kalil to the Vikings, NONE than it really matters because ' well, its not the Dolphins so we do not care, right??
Ahh, those fateful words ring out. Roger Goodell says 'The Dolphins are on the hands of time!' Everything enters clear focus, the entire world hushes, since you are waiting with baited breath to hear those sweet words of success. You see, almost always there is a huge amount of scrutiny put from the first 3 rounds in the draft (especially the initial round), due to the fact these are the people you happen to be drafting to come out, make team, and commence for you the very next season. The ones that are likely to make an effect ASAP!
Everything you had done was perfect. All research pointed in the only direction we could go, and you just KNEW that Red Rider BB .. umm .. different story, nevertheless, you just knew the fact that was coming next! It didn't matter whether or not this was Coples, or Ingram, Cox, as well as Poe, as it was going to fit into MY masterplan!!
The commissioner slowly makes his way on the podium as the screenshot flips .. The Dolphins pick is within. After a deep breath, he loudly proclaims ' 'In the eighth pick in the 2012 NFL draft, the Miami Dolphins choose Ryan Tannehill, QB from Texas A&M!!' Screams erupted as people in Radio City start congratulating him on what could be the FIRST day of the rest of his life. I had some excitement to .. it appears as though there was a blood curdling roar within my neighborhood about 9:15ish or so, along with the police were out seeking the sasquatch that had to have been what created that god awful noise.
